Leading a Complex, Global, Decentralized Team Project
The Challenge
Our client needed a technically-focused project manager who understood our client’s diagnostic business fundamentals and had the experience to know how to drive towards deadlines and achieve milestones.
Our client had a global project team with members and decision-makers from all of the different operating companies. This vast project team and disparate decision-makers caused much churn and deadlines were frequently missed.
The bottom line was that there were too many cooks and too many missed deadlines. The projects needed clear leadership.

How We Did It
Listen to our client as they explained the reasons their project continually ran into delays.
Provide a technically-knowledgeable program manager to lead the project team, manage deliverables and communicate effectively up and down the organization.
Our project management methodology focuses on excellent delivery and just as important to us – good, effective communications. Being able to inform project team members and decision-makers about important goings-on without overwhelming is an effective way to ensure decisions and progress are made in a timely fashion.
Managing Uncertainty, and Risks when working with an IT Vendor
The Challenge
Our pharmaceutical client needed a program manager who understood the complexity, uncertainty, and risks associated in collaborating with a vendor for a large-scale enterprise technology solution.
The client had a global project team that included representatives from clinical data management, clinical operations, global IT, systems compliance. This did not include the numerous team members from the vendor located across the globe.
Ensuring accountability with the client and the IT vendor is extremely challenging.
Then there is uncertainty associated with what happens with vendor, such as unforeseen vendor resource changes causing knowledge loss and re-education to bring any new resource up to speed.
There can be information sharing loss, such as unknown timelines of software update schedules.

How We Did It
Listen to our client as they explained their needs and expectations with detailed documentation of the current state, and the desired future state.
Organize a clear project structure that would separate client responsibilities and the IT vendor's responsibilities. This ensures clear accountabilities.
A key component to managing uncertainty was establishing a clear communication plan between the client and the IT vendor. Very frequent and regular interval communication was a critical success factor of the project to quickly pivot and adapt to unforeseen challenges and requirements.
